Rosemary Engels

(Costa Rica, Canada) Co Chair La República Media Group, UWC Costa Rica Parent of Graduate.
Rosemary Engels, since 2007, has been co-chair of Republica Media Group, one of the most influential media groups in Costa Rica. It has a wide range of platforms, including La República in print, and LaRepublica.net – with almost  2 million unique monthly visits, and more than 700 thousand followers on social networks, - as well as Centralamericalink.com, with coverage of the economy and business in the Isthmus, Colombia, and Mexico in Spanish, English, and Mandarin.

“Our goal is to achieve equal representation of men and women in our media. It is not an easy task. If we want to interview bankers, politicians, computer scientists, or professional athletes, these tend to be men. So how do you create a new culture? One way to do that is to give women a voice in various fields from the same institutions - the IT director, the marketer, the designer, the financier, the soccer player - each of whom will inspire future generations.”  For many years, Engels served on the board of directors of the American Costa Rican Chamber of Commerce and currently participates on several of its committees.

Engels has been awarded a medal by the Governor-General of Canada in recognition of her contribution to strengthening Canada-Costa Rica bilateral relations.

Born in Canada, Engels has a Law Degree from McGill University and a Bachelor of Commerce, (Honours) from Queen’s University.
Rosemary and her husband have been actively involved with UWC Costa Rica as parents of one of our recent graduates.
